This weekend cottage on a Dutch lake needed a complete makeover. The client wished to have a lush cornucopia of tall flowering perennials, with weaving grass paths to discover the diverse flora on a summer’s day. First, the sinking island on which it lie was raised with tons of fertile topsoil, edged with a new hardwood revetment to keep it all in place. By repeating the various plant species in the beds, the garden feels like a verdant mass of controlled wild flowers waiting to be explored and enjoyed for months on end.
