Working methods

Pieter Hessels Landscape Design is specialised in creating total concepts for exterior spaces.
We develop aesthetic concepts for both rural and urban gardens which evolve into a developed design, followed by
detailed construction drawings. Subsequently, in order to ensure a high level of quality, we can supervise the project
through to completion.

5 phases of design and completion

Initial consult.
1 This first meeting on site enables us to get a sense of the place and the needs and wishes of its users.
A written brief provides the basis for further conversations, followed by a quote for a Garden Design.

Garden Design
2 On your instruction, we will commission a Landscape survey, which is an inventory map of all existing elements on
site. This allows us to produce a Concept Design sketch, which shows the division and use of space. We will suggest
ideas for materials and plants using mood boards. The design is still evolving at this stage.

3 In response to the Concept Design, we will continue to produce a Developed Design, consisting of a scaled
masterplan with 3d views and elevations where necessary, completing the two phases of the Garden Design
Package. Any required changes to the design after presentation of the developed design count as additional work.

Design Details
4 After approval of the Developed Design, the various garden elements will be specified by means of a planting plan
with accompanying planting and materials list. Where necessary this includes detailed working drawings.

Implementation
5 Subsequently, we will ask trusted landscape contractors to submit a detailed cost breakdown for the Implementation
of the garden. To monitor the quality and progress of work, we provide supervision during the execution of the project.
This can include permit requests, sourcing of materials, weekly site meetings with progress reports and setting out of
plants and trees.
