Back to nature in the Veluwe

After renovating this weekend retreat in the Veluwe game reserve, a Scandinavian style cabin was added, providing an extra set of beds for guests. The existing landscape consisted of a dense forest of non-native Douglas fir, which prevented any light and therefore life on the forest floor. We set about carefully removing the firs and replacing them with an indigenous pallet of Pine, Oak and Beech, underplanted with white flowering dogwood and large swaths of heather. This ongoing habitat restoration project currently includes a natural pond, attracting wildlife such as wild boar and deer.
